French 2Design

Syracuse, NY

Boston, MA

The sister-run partnership of French 2D aims to engage in new models of media, art and design work. Anda and Jenny French founded French 2D in late 2008. The firm is based in Boston, with projects in Boston, Cambridge, New York City and Syracuse, NY

French 2D’s work explores models of overlap between architecture, art and information, which can be found in many built and experimental projects, in institutional, residential, commercial and installation models. In 2013 French 2D was one of five finalists in the Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program.

The design practice thrives on tackling complex issues between existing and new formal, social, and technical conditions.

Jenny French holds a A.B. from Dartmouth College and an M.Arch from Harvard University.  Jenny’s research focuses on bringing to life the world of the architectural imaginary, developed in research as a recipient of Harvard’s Appleton Traveling Fellowship and as a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome. Work from these travels resulted in a solo exhibition at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Jenny teaches architecture and design studios at the Boston Architectural College as well as Tufts University.

Anda French  holds a B.A. from Barnard College, Columbia University and an M.Arch from Princeton University. Anda is a registered Architect in Massachusetts, and is NCARB Certified. Anda’s teaching and design research has been supported by several grants, including the Imagining America Grant for Artists and Scholars in Public Life, which funded work with Say Yes to Education, the Urban Video Project, and 26 arts and cultural organizations in Syracuse, NY. Work resulting from these efforts, which promoted the use of text-messaging based urban installations, was exhibited in the US Pavilion at the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2012. Anda previously taught at Syracuse University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and in the Barnard + Columbia Undergraduate Architecture Program.
